Review: Mascara

I'ts always been a struggle for me to find a good mascara that I am happy with, and would continue to buy again. I don't exactly know why this is, but right now I have three mascaras that I love, and sometimes dislike, for different reasons. So I wanted to break down the Pro's and Con's of each (for me) and hopefully guide some of you into finding a mascara that works for you!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Maybelline - Volum' Express, The Falsies
Where to buy; Walgreens, Ulta, Walmart, Target etc.
Price: $6.99

Pros:

  • Defines lashes, the top half
  • Gives modest amount of length
  • Fun packaging
  • Soft lashes, once dried.
  • Adds volume (at base of eyelash)
Cons:
  • Tends to clump at base of lashes, i actually needed a spoolie brush to clear them out!
  • Texture is heavy, and weighs down lashes
  • Flakes off on face during day.
Good For: A thicker, more dramatic eyelash. If you have the time to apply it slowly and correctly.
Overall Rating? (3/5)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 2. L'Oreal - Double Extend
Where to buy: Walmart, Ulta, Walgreens etc...
Price: $9.99

Pros:
  • Extends lashes, a lot.
  • Adds volume
  • Easy to use wand.
  • Mascara transfers nicely to eyelash and
Cons:
  • Slower drying, increased transfer to skin after application
  • Flakes once set
  • Hard to remove
  • Very clumpy when used with step 1 for me.
  • Pricey
Good For: The "spider" lash trend.
Overall Rating? (2/5)

3. NYX - Pin-up Tease, Boudoir Curl
Where to Buy: Got mine at Ulta
Price: $5.99

Pros:

  • Price
  • Long lasting
  • Smudge-free
  • Defines with minimal clumping
  • *Fast drying, less transfer to skin.
  • Curls Lashes
Cons:

  • Hard to remove
  • *Fast drying, difficult for 2nd coat if you wait for too long
  • No volume (as claimed)
  • Hard lashes once set
  • Odd application wand
Good for: The 'minimal' makeup look, that you need to wear all day with no touch-ups.
Overall Rating?: (4/5)

So, as you can see all of these mascaras have some good and bad things about them. I use the NYX Pin-up Tease every day, because I have such a low-maintenance makeup look 90% of the time for my M-F work schedule. On weekends I will use the Falsies for date night or whenever I have a little more time to apply it. I use the Double Extend rarely, and probably wont be purchasing it again when this tube is gone or expires.
