Looks We Love: White Hair

As I've already confessed, I'm addicted to changing my hair, specifically dyeing it.

Maybe it's my love affair with all things Daenerys Targaryen but I've been borderline obsessed with white hair lately.

I think it is so striking and unique on almost every single person I've seen it on.

So, I've decided I will be calling up my hair-dresser pretty soon and making myself an appointment! If I knew I could do it at home without my hair falling out, I totally would. But, since I have such dark hair It's probably better to let a professional handle it.

What do you all think about this bold hair statement? What's the bravest hair decision you've ever tried, or wanted to try?

Review: Maybelline Color Tattoo

First, PLEASE vote for me in the Karmaloop Modeling Contest! Winners announced 06/06/2013! If I win I will do a giveaway of some KL swag! ;) thanks so much!!

Okay, okay. I know, I know. Let me just dust off this keyboard and monitor and get back to blogging!

Seriously though, I'm sorry for being MIA since the giveaway announcement. I started to get a little overwhelmed by the blog/youtube/instagram/keek etc, etc...

I was feeling more like a 2nd job than something fun and therapeutic. Now that I've worked out the kinks, it's time to get back to business!

Now, I realize that i'm probably a little late to the "Color Tattoo Cruise Ship", but better late than never, right?

I've been eyeing these babies in Walgreens for months. Finally, they had another Buy One, Get one 1/2 off sale, so i decided why not? It's basically like buy 3, get one free. So I talked myself into it. (I didn't need a lot of convincing...)

They are regular priced $6.99ea. I would have paid around $30, but instead I paid around $22 (after taxes). I also gained enough points to redeem $5, so i'll be getting a 5th one for around $2!

I picked up "Painted Purple", "Bold Gold", "Pomegranate Punk" and "Ready, Set, Green!"

Here are some swatches...

Pros:
-Color Payoff
-Size
-Longevity*
-Availability

Cons:
-Longevity*
-Stains

Overall: 4/5 stars.

I'm only deducting a star because it stains. I tried out a look with the gold last night and its still on, 24 hours later. At least the product lives up to its name! I'll probably be wearing these swatches tomorrow on my wrist at work.

What do you think? Have you tried the 24-hr color tattoos before? Can you suggest a 5th color for me to get? What are some other long lasting cream shadows that you like?

Ipsy Glam Bag: May 2013

Yay! It's time again for another IPSY Glam Bag review!

FYI - If you're interested in joining IPSY, please use my special code here. I do get IPSY points, which I can redeem for fun stuff. You can get them too when your join and share your link with your friends and they join!

When I got my tracking code email this month I was very excited to find that we would be getting a bonus item! There is almost no situation where getting a bonus is bad, right? I was even more excited when I read the email and found out what it was! (don't worry, we'll get to that ::winwink::)

I tried to film a video for this, but I'm having issues getting the video converted into a format that I can edit, without it glitching up. I'm exploring different avenues but if you have any suggestions on programs you like to edit with please share!

This month we received 6 products, so let's jump right in!

Full Price: $8.00

I do love some Zoya nail polish! I was not/am not thrilled at the color for myself. I usually gravitate towards pinks, reds and neutrals, but i'm giving it an honest go and hoping it grows on me! The quality of Zoya is great and it's a popular brand.

Full Price: $4.85
Full 20 Concealer Pallete: $100.00

This was my most confusing item in the bag. I thought the color would be too light, but it's actually a perfect match. I think the "or" to this item was an Anastasia brow pencil and i would have much rather had that. The packaging is not meant for long-term and now I need to buy a free-style magnet palette, though, this may give me an excuse to by some MUG shadows!

Full Price: $24.00

I'm looking at this wondering, "Did they see me in my sundress over the weekend?" I am SO SO SO pale on my legs, and I'm actually pretty excited to try this product! I don't reach for them while i'm shopping for myself, because I'm afraid of looking like an oompa-loompa and waiting money. I'll probably be doing an update of this item.

Full Price: $29.00

I have heard SO many great things about NUME and even though I have short hair, I love serums and sprays and texturizers! I can't wait to give this a try as well.

Full Price: $15.00

I don't own any lipgloss. Wipe that shocked look off your face. This gloss smells like mixed berries and, even thought the name is "pink", it's really more of a deep cranberry mixed with a hint of cherry red. It's pretty gorgeous on!

BONUS TIME!!!!!!!!!!!

Full Price: $20.00

Are. You. Seeing. This?! THIS was our bonus for May! If you can't tell i'm freaking excited as hell-o! When I saw that this was the bonus product, I rushed to the Urban Decay website and was totally drawn to this color, Stargazer. It's described on the website as a "metallic lime-gold w/gold 3D sparkle" Could it be any more perfect? *sigh*

Total Product Value: $100.85!!!!
* = full sized product
**all products were full sized this month

As if you guys needed another reason to CLICK THIS LINK and join in on the IPSY phenomenon! Disclaimer: I did have to wait for two months on a waiting list for a spot, but as you can very well see, it's totally worth it!

Honestly, this bag pales in comparison to my first in April, but you should totally check out that post anyway! Also, a big congrats to Heather over at Reverie 17 for making the leap to IPSY. She credits my April bag post and I'm glad I could sway her!

Seriously, I hope you enjoyed this overview/review of my IPSY Glam Bag!

Local Spotlight: ella + scott!

I did a "Local Spotlight" post last month, and since I want to try and single out one local place I love every month, I figured it's about time for another one!

This month, I want to talk about a local Boutique named ella + scott!  I adore this boutique! They have beautiful, timeless clothes, and the service is outstandingly friendly!

(Here is a little it about Ella + Scott, straight from their website:)

FASHION CHOSE US...
ella + scott opened it's doors in May 2011 because we couldn't hide our passion any longer. Now we get to celebrate a love for fashion and the spirit of style everyday.

WE BELIEVE...
That good style is all about how it makes you feel. Wearing an outfit that makes you feel amazing is the only way to wear any piece of clothing.

WE WOULD RATHER NOT....
Let labels and price tags define great style. Whether an outfit cost you a thousand dollars or ten dollars, if it doesn't make you feel like a million bucks, it isn't worth buying.

WE HAVE A MOTTO HERE...
Wear it. Rock it. When you find just the right style to fit you and your personality, you won't just want to wear it, you'll want to rock it, all day long. That's what fashion does to us and that's exactly what we want fashion to do for you.

Here are a few photos, courtesy of their Facebook Page:

Not a local? No problem! You can shop online too! The selection is not as wide as in-store, but you could have a little piece of ella + scott virtually anywhere!

They are located at:
460 MLK Dr.
Beaumont, TX 77701
Monday-Friday: 10am - 6pm
Saturday: 10am - 4pm

Find them online:

So, what are you waiting for? Check them and and, Wear it. Rock it!

FYI - We have 49 Facebook likes, 25 Blog followers and we just hit 3k views! We also have 2 YouTube subscribers! I want to take a minute to thank you all again for your love and support and to remind you that we are about to enter our 6th month of blogging and for that, we have a very special surprise planned for you all!

Note: this entry was not sponsored in any way, shape or form by any brand, company or item named or listed above. Thank you.

Our First YouTube Video!

So, it's sort of a historic day. I finally uploaded our very first YouTube video on our channel! It took me 2 weeks and 3 different programs before I finally found one that worked and was user friendly with enough editing options.

So, it's just a quick 34 second into video. There are a few things, looking back now, that I would probably edit/alter but I don't think it's too shabby for a beginner YouTuber!

Check it out and let me know what you think!

I was having some issues getting the thumbnail to be centered and even. Anyone have any insight for me on that?

Anyways, check out our channel and subscribe because now that I've gotten the hang of editing, there will be more videos soon!

Thanks for watching/reading!

Oh Deer: It's never too early to starting thinking about RenFest!

I have been in a total makeup mood lately! So, the Texas Renaissance Festival is around 5 months away and, since it's never too early (for me) to start planning my costume, I thought i'd share some of my progress with you all!

First, a short history!

So, my husband and I looooooove the Texas Renaissance Festival and try to go twice a year. One time as tourists in our everyday clothes, and another in costume!

I adore Renaissance Faires. They let you transport yourself into this magical kingdom for a day, surrounded by lords and ladies, knights and monks. It's so much fun.

Last year, I was a fairy:

And my very first year to go, 2008, we dressed up as Link and Zelda!

Ha! I felt like a total nerd and it was 100% worth it. We got a LOT of attention. We also went in 2009 as Link and Zelda again, skipped 2010 and didn't dress up in 2011. Soooooo, this year I want to created a satyr/faun/deer costume and started working on a makeup look,

Let me know what you all think! Would you like a video tutorial on this look?!

I'm not 100% happy with the look, and there are some things I want to change, but that's why it's a test run right?

Anyways, I'll be documenting my progress as it gets closer to October so I hope you guys will enjoy it! Do you guys like halloween, or renaissance festivals? Now, to scrub my face!

Thanks for reading!

Two Eye Makeup Looks

So I've been playing around with looks and challenging myself to think outside the box when it comes to my makeup looks. I usually stick with the same 3-4 colors from my Naked pallet during the week, and give myself more creative freedom on weekends. Away from criticizing eyes.

But, I figured, why the hell not?! So, behold my two latest makeup looks that I am brave enough and/or happy enough with to put on the world wide web!

This first one is just something I was playing around with in my new NYX Wicked Dreams pallette. My husband really really liked this look. ;)

I've been loving all of the buzz from the MET Gala (my favorite fashion event) and Kristen Stewart's whole ensemble stood out to me. Especially her eye makeup. Feeling inspired, I brought out my pallette army and got to blending away. ;)

It didn't end up near as dark as I wanted, but i was still pleased with the color. Oh well, practice makes perfect, right?

Also, can anyone recommend a reliable waterproof kohl pencil? I've gone through the Rimmel and the Revlon, and they both give that uneven waterline coverage you see there. I've seen folks using gel liners, but that looks kind of scary! Maybe I need to give it a go though.

Anyways, let me know what you all thought. I've been bitten by the makeup bug the past few days! ;)

DIY: Old Window Re-do

You know those great old windows you see all over pinterest? People turn them into bird houses, head boards, picture frames. The list is almost endless really.

Well, a while back before I started this blog, I managed to get my hands on one. I've seen them around antique shops, and since the popularity starting going up, so did the price. I managed to snag one that has 10 panes of glass, 5 on top and 5 on bottom! I've seen ones with one 6 panes go for upwards of $40, but I found mine for only $22!

I had been needing something for my bare dining room walls, and knew immediately what I wanted to do with it! Here are some photos and a step-by-step list of everything I did and how it turned out!

When I purchased it, it was missing one pane of glass,
but I thought it added some character.
I didn't want to paint it, and it didn't need any distressing
done, so I just cleaned the glass with a damp cloth.

Next, I decided how many photos I wanted, and where
I wanted to place them. I printed out 5- 8x10's in B&W
at home. I then added a coating of mod-podge to the
windows I wanted and placed my photos face down.
After they had dried long enough to secure their position,
I added another layer over the back, to make it more secure.

I let it dry for one hour, and and added a final coat.

*The mod-podge reacted with the ink, and gave the photos an
aged look, which is what I was going for. If you want, you could
lay the photos face up, to avoid that look.

This is the result, but I felt like it was missing something.
I added an old board to make a shelf and some little knick-knacks.

(the lighting is terrible!)

Voila! The finished result!

I hope you liked my project! Do you like the old window projects? Have you done one yourself? What would you do with an old window if you had one?

Thanks for reading, and I hope you get the chance to take our survey!
