In an effort to let you all get to know me a little better, I'll be sharing random facts about myself during my blogging endeavors. Tonight's little nugget of knowledge will be about my hair!
I am obsessed with changing my hair. The first step is admitting you have a problem, right?! I started dying my hair around 16 or 17 and it's been an interesting, colorful, accident filled journey ever since. Almost 10 (ugh) years later I haven't quite learned my lesson.
I felt compelled to blog about this, since i'm going through a bit of a hair crisis. A year ago in February 2012 (photo 1-3) I chopped my hair off into a pixie cut. This is the 3rd time I've made the 'pixie plunge' and was relieved to have my days of split ends, hair masks and flat ironing behind me for a while.
Now I have let my hair get a little bit longer. It's now at an asymmetrical bob with my left side stopping at my ears and my right side swooping just below my jaw line. The problem is that I have processed it to death. I always told myself that "Oh, you have thick hair it can handle the abuse." While that might have been somewhat true 7-9 years ago, i've learned (the hard way) if you don't take care of it, it wont stay thick and strong.
I colored my hair on 03/08/2013 and while rinsing it out a chunk of hair fell out. A chunk. Like, all at once. It disturbed me so much I have promised myself, and now you, that I will not be coloring or over processing my hair for 6 months. This means, little straightening, low heat drying, zero coloring, vitamins and deep conditioning.
I am trying the John Frieda Full Repair: hydrate + rescue deep conditioner tonight for the first time and I will update you all soon on how it worked out! I heard some good things about it and 27 of 27 people gave it 100% on their website. I purchased this at Ulta, with a $9.99 price tag but it had a "save $2" coupon taped to it!
Before I go, I wanted to just share with you 5 of my favorite random things around my office!
1. Keep Calm & Carry On Poster (allposters)
2. Bob Dylan Poster
3. The detailing on my office chair
4. Some groovy musician statues
5. My "Office Space" red stapler
Thanks for checking out this entry and making it to the end! I hoped you like this more personal post and learned a little something about me along the way.

I remember those younger days of you changing hair color seemingly weekly. Scary about the chunk, but at least you're doing good now. Me I don't have enough hair to do much with these days lol. Keep up the great work.
ReplyDeleteHenna, as you probably know, coats the hair. It doesn't open or rough up the hair shaft like most commercial dyes do. And because gray hair tends to be coarser and slicker than pigmented hair, henna has a tendency to slip off the gray. That's why henna is categorized as a semi-permanent hair color.
